In this EXCLUSIVE peek of ‘I Am Shauna Rae,’ Shauna Rae wants to get another tattoo, but the tattoo artist is reluctant when he first sees her.
In honor of her grandfather, Shauna Rae plans to get a fresh tattoo. In this EXCLUSIVE preview of the January 18 episode of I Am Shauna Rae, she visits a tattoo parlor and requests a chocolate-covered cherry with the date «February 14, 2021.» Chocolate-covered cherries were her grandfather’s favorite candy.
When Shauna approaches the front desk, the tattoo artist inquires about her age. She informs him that she is 22 years old and displays her previous tattoos. The questions are nothing out of the ordinary for Shauna.
«It’s a strange feeling stepping into a tattoo store,» Shauna acknowledges. «It’s almost as if you’ve walked into a bar.» You either get carded or you don’t, and they either respect you or they don’t. Even if the situation is different, the feeling is very similar.»
Shauna and the tattoo artist have a vibrant and enjoyable chat. He describes her as a «firecracker.» He also expresses his want to spend time with her. Because he’s a bigger guy and is judged for it, the tattoo artist bonds with Shauna.
«I can identify to Joel since he has had similar pre-judgmental experiences to mine, but on the opposite end of the spectrum,» Shauna explains. «He’s taller, he’s wider, he’s tattooed, and all of those things are stereotypes for someone who could harm you.»
The new TLC show follows Shauna as she attempts to live a regular adult life despite her childlike appearance. When Shauna was six months old, she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Her medication brought her into remission, but it had one huge drawback: she stopped growing.
Shauna’s pituitary gland was nearly dormant as a result of the chemotherapy, leaving her with a juvenile appearance and standing at only 3 feet and 10 inches tall– the usual size of an 8-year-old. Shauna is now 22 years old. I Am Shauna Rae airs on TLC on Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
