According to a source close to Kate McKinnon, she will continue to work on ‘Saturday Night Live’ while filming her next ‘Tiger King’ series.
Kate McKinnon’s coworkers at Saturday Night Live have been adapting her new work schedule as she continues to film her upcoming Tiger King series with Peacock. Despite her part-time status, Kate, 37, will remain an integral part of the series due to SNL creator Lorne Michaels’ desire to have as much of the remaining cast on the current Season 47, a source has exclusively revealed to HollywoodLife that she will remain an integral part of the series despite her part-time status.
Our insider stated, “SNL with Kate McKinnon is just a better SNL.” “Lorne was keen on bringing her back because she is such a force to be reckoned with. She is currently working very hard to bring her Tiger King project to television, as she is both portraying Carole Baskin and producing the show, so her concentration has been on making it the best it can be.”
Because both projects take up so much of the Emmy winner’s time, she won’t be able to appear on the NBC sketch comedy on a regular basis, necessitating some necessary sacrifices. “There has been an agreement and concessions made that Kate will assist with SNL when she is able,” the insider continued. “It’s better to have a part-time Kate than no Kate at all.”
The cast and crew are “being as flexible as possible for this all to work out,” according to the insider, because “everyone adores” Kate. “She deserves this treatment,” the insider said, “and it’s working out for everyone.” Following initial rumors that the SNL veteran would not return at all, the part-time deal was made.
While Kate and other long-serving cast members, such as Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant, had been believed to be leaving after the 45th season, it was Beck Bennett, a fan favorite, who made the announcement. On September 27, he announced his departure, praising the show for “eight years of wonderful people and incredible events that completely altered my life.”
Lauren Holt, a prominent cast member, also left the show. This season, breakout stars Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman have been elevated to regular cast members. Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson, and Sarah Sherman were among the three new featured players in Season 47. The next episode of Saturday Night Live will air on October 9 with Kim Kardashian as host and Halsey as musical guest.
