On Week 3 Thursday Night Football, the Panthers travel to Houston to face the Texans for the first time. The Panthers are aiming for a 3-0 start thanks to a dominant defense and explosive offense, while the Texans want to keep their division lead.
Now is your chance to add Christian McCaffrey to your NFL DFS lineups. He’s the closest thing we’ve seen to a 100% owned and “MVP’d” player in FanDuel single game contests, but zigging on this zag isn’t as appealing as joining the herd.
The following are the key score options for FanDuel single-game contests: The “MVP’s” point total is multiplied by 1.5, although he doesn’t cost any more money in DraftKings Showdown contests like the “Captain.” FanDuel’s default scoring is half-point PPR with four-point passing TDs, and unlike DraftKings, there are no bonuses for games of 100/300 yards.
FanDuel Single-Game DFS Picks: Panthers vs. Texans
$60,000 budget, need at least one player from each team
MVP (1.5x points): RB Christian McCaffrey, Panthers ($17,500)
You could go all out and name Sam Darnold your MVP in a couple of lineups, but we’ll keep it simple. Why wouldn’t we lock in the multiplier on McCaffrey’s productivity if he’s on his way to another 1,000/1,000 season?
FLEX: QB Sam Darnold, Panthers ($15,000)
With the exception of a handful of easy turnovers, Darnold is off to a terrific start in his new digs. Darnold has the ingredients for a good fantasy performance, with a lot of dynamic weapons to target and his own fast feet. It also helps because McCaffrey is such a good receiver that even without a Panthers WR or TE in the lineup, we can still “stack” our QB.
WEEK 3 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings | Yahoo
FLEX: QB Davis Mills, Panthers ($12,000)
Mills is in for a rough ride, but “garbage time” points are a thing in fantasy football. We’ll probably spend part of Friday talking about Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) losing his starting job to yet another rookie quarterback if the Texans show to be a tougher challenge than expected on their own turf.

FLEX: K Zane Gonzalez, Panthers ($9,500)
The Panthers’ offensive line has struggled at times in the first two games of the season after losing a starter this week. The offense may see drives stagnate and be forced to settle for three-point attempts as long as the line is prone to leakiness. The jelling process will not be aided by hitting the road on a short week. Gonzalez will receive PATs and at least a couple FG attempts, even if the Panthers score a lot of touchdowns.
WEEK 3 FANTASY: Sleepers | Busts | Start ’em, sit ’em
FLEX: WR Anthony Miller, Texans ($5,500)
Miller is anticipated to play for the first time this season, and given the injuries to the Texans’ receiving corps, he may be forced to do so. It’s worth a try at $5,500 to see if Miller can emerge as a safety net for his rookie quarterback.
