Thursday Night Football DraftKings Picks: NFL DFS lineup advice for…

The Panthers and Texans will face battle in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football. The Panthers have put together a fearsome defense and are off to a 3-0 start.

Meanwhile, thanks to the Jaguars, the Texans don’t appear to be the worst-run team in the league. Carolina, like the bulk of the field in DraftKings Showdown competitions, will rely on their hero, Christian McCaffrey, to lead them to another triumph.

With one pick taking up so much of your salary budget, it’s difficult to put together a successful DFS lineup, but we like some of the bargain choices available.

Here are the most important score parameters for DraftKings Showdowns before we get into lineup selections: There are three-point bonuses for 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and 100 receiving yards in this full-point PPR format. The Captain pick costs 1.5 times the regular price, but it also increases a player’s point total by 1.5.

DraftKings Showdown Picks: Panthers vs. Texans

$50,000 budget, need at least one player from each team.

Captain (1.5x value, 1.5x points): RB Christian McCaffrey, Panthers ($21,000)

We’ll have to pay out of pocket to make CMC our captain, but we’re not willing to look at other possibilities, especially considering he’s surpassed 40 DraftKings points four times since 2018.

FLEX: QB Sam Darnold, Panthers ($11,200)

Darnold has shown he can play at a high level in his first two games with the Panthers. He still has some easy turnovers to clean up, but he’s well on his way to being another post-Adam Gase success story. Because the offense boasts three distinct receivers for its three passing touchdowns, we’ll only stack Darnold and McCaffrey in this setup rather than taking a chance on a single pass-catcher.

FLEX: QB Davis Mills, Texans ($8,400)

Mills seemed to be in for a long night, but football doesn’t often go as planned. Mills will most likely be accountable for much of the offensive production if the Texans can convert this into a respectable game. We’re also wondering how much a road trip on a short week will slow down the Panthers defense with this play.

FLEX: RB David Johnson, Texans ($5,400)

In baseball, running back-by-committee is similar to closer-by-committee. In principle, that sounds great, but someone has to grab the reins and force the team to commit to more defined duties. With 14 touches, Johnson and Phillip Lindsay are tied for second place behind Mark Ingram. Johnson’s 5.4 yards-per-touch, on the other hand, far outpaces his teammates. It’s not hard to foresee a situation in which Johnson progressively takes up more of the backfield load, potentially beginning on Thursday night.

Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

FLEX: K Zane Gonzalez, Panthers ($3,800)

On offense, the Panthers have had their moments, but a handful of miscues in the first two weeks indicate that they aren’t quite firing on all cylinders yet. We’ll probably see healthy doses of Gonzalez until that happens.

Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

FLEX: WR Anthony Miller, Texans ($1,000)

The Texans are without Nico Collins (shoulder) and Danny Amendola (hamstring), so the Panthers are expected to focus their efforts on stopping Brandin Cooks. That means Miller, who will make his debut in 2021, could be counted upon to do some heavy lifting out of the spot. He’s hit double digits in DK points 15 times in his career, and the volume needed for a 16th may be there.
