Stephen A. Smith sounds off on Gerrit Cole and the…

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is fuming at Yankees ace Gerrit Cole’s poor performance.

When something goes wrong with one of his favorite players or teams, we can almost always count on Stephen A. Smith to react, especially when a New York-based team has a bad game.

So when Gerrit Cole, the Yankees’ starting pitcher, was yanked in the third inning, Smith did not disappoint.

The ESPN personality expressed his displeasure with Cole’s performance and benching in a tweet:

Damn! Damn! Damn! This dude @GerritCole45 signs for 9-years, $324-million….and can’t make it out the damn 3rd-inning for the @Yankees. WTH!!!!!!! Damn I miss George Steinbrenner.I really do miss him paying players a visit before games like this.

Smith, like all Yankees fans, had every right to be frustrated and irritated by Cole’s performance against the Boston Red Sox in Tuesday’s Wild Card game. The Yankees’ ace gave up three runs on two home runs in only two-and-a-half innings, and manager Aaron Boone withdrew him with the team behind the Red Sox by three runs.

Yankees: Stephen A. Smith fuming at Gerrit Cole

Cole’s misfortune is surprising because most fans don’t anticipate a pitcher who will earn $324 million over the next nine years to perform so poorly for the Yankees, especially in a crucial lose-or-you’re-out playoff scenario.

Smith said that he missed the late-long-time Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who would make numerous visits to the squad before games with this passion to energise them.

Later in the game, after a Giancarlo Stanton single that went off the wall, Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin urged Aaron Judge to run home. Judge, on the other hand, was ejected from his home. Smith was irritated as well.

DAMN!!!!! Is that Phil Nevin, the Yankees 3rd-base coach waving Judge home! Damn! How do you not see that shot from Stanton ricochet off the wall??? You would’ve had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Now, he gets tagged at home.#Shit!!!

The team, particularly Cole, needed that fire sparked tonight since they were unprepared for this game.
