When you have ‘love,’ who needs tennis? Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage tour in New York City while the US Open was still going on.
Serena Williams missed the U.S. Open due to injury, but that didn’t stop her from taking in all that New York City has to offer. Serena, 39, spent some extra time with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, on a beautiful date while Emma Raducanu defeated Leylah Annie Fernandez in the women’s final on Saturday.
On Sept. 11, Alexis, 38, took Serena for a romantic ride around Central Park in Manhattan in one of the park’s iconic horse-drawn carriages.
Serena wore a baseball cap, a red checkered blouse, black leggings, sandals, and a facemask — the ideal pre-fall ensemble. Alexis wore a puffer jacket over a pair of shorts and a black t-shirt, which he removed throughout the ride. During their romantic day trip to New York City in September, the two curled up together.
Serena Williams would normally be coming off an incredible performance at the US Open, but she withdrew from the tennis competition this year, citing the injury that forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon.
In her Aug. 25 announcement, she said, “After careful deliberation and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to let my body to fully heal from a torn hamstring.” Serena also mentioned that New York City is “one of my favorite locations to play” and that she will miss “seeing the fans” but will “be cheering everyone on from afar.”
Serena has spent some quality time with Alexis and their 3-year-old daughter Olympia Ohanian since then. Olympia gave her father a makeover at the end of August. He asked his daughter, “Are you going to make me beautiful?” She replied, “Maybe.”
MAYBE!” Olympia sat down for a piano lesson with her mother less than a week later. Serena looked to her daughter after hitting the erroneous key and questioned, “Are you going to fire me?” Olympia, thankfully, continued to play. The tennis legend (and 23-time Grand Slam winner) captioned the video, “I teach her tennis… She teaches me piano.” Serena and Olympia swapped the piano for the mixing bowl at the beginning of September. The lovely pair, dubbed “Olympia and Momma,” collaborated on a rainbow cake.
