Riz Ahmed Remembers Michael K. Williams: 'he Brought Heart To…

Riz Ahmed paid a poignant tribute on social media to fellow actor Michael K. Williams, who died last week.

Williams, who was known for his roles in “The Wire” and “Lovecraft Country,” was discovered dead at his home in New York City on Monday.

The cause of death for the 54-year-old is being probed as a suspected narcotics overdose.

Ahmed, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in “Sound of Metal,” co-starred with Williams in the HBO miniseries “The Night Of” in 2016. He lauded his co-star as a “special talent” and “unique spirit” in an Instagram picture and a series of tweets.

“He brought heart to the art,” he added.

Thread 1/ Rest in Peace MKW…rare talent, unique soul. So generous, humble, badass, and so unapologetically yourself. Thank you for the art you gave us & all you taught me.

Ahmed mentioned his time working on “The Night Of” in another thread, for which he got an Emmy Award.

Williams handed Ahmed “the prettiest [and] prob still most costly jacket I own” as a sign of moral support during a particularly tough week of filming, Ahmed added.

3/ Another time I go to his apartment to rehearse. I’m analysing the hell out of the scenes. He tells me “stop thinking about it, try dreaming about it”. Took me years to even understand. He brought heart to the art.

Other Hollywood giants, including Idris Elba, Niecy Nash, and “The Wire” creator David Simon, echoed Ahmed’s comments.

Simon, whose HBO accomplishments include “The Deuce” and “The Plot Against America,” said, “Too gutted right now to say all that needed to be said.”

“On our journey together, Michael was a fine man and a rare talent, and he always earned the nicest remarks. And those words aren’t coming today.”
