The arrest of Jen Shah is a big issue in the season 2 opener of ‘RHOSLC,’ and Whitney Rose tells EXCLUSIVELY what it was like to be there.
Any Bravo super fan who has seen the first seconds of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 2 premiere will have had their jaw drop as Jen Shah, 47, learns that the FBI are following her and that she is soon to be arrested. Despite being afraid, Whtney Rose, 34, sat beside her co-star as the cameras rolled for the call and believed it was a big joke.
Whitney tells HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY from her Salt Lake home on Sept. 9: “It was one of — I just went into total shock.” “It was completely unexpected. It was terrible since we had no idea what was going on, but I had never expected to go through something like that.
It seems to have appeared out of nowhere. In fact, I was just telling someone that it was so out of the blue that I assumed it was a hoax and that Jen had hired strippers. Because no one’s clothing were matching!”
Jen was arrested for fraud on March 30 with her aide, Stuart Smith, as she was prepared to leave on a cast vacation. Jen is seen getting on a party bus with the ladies in the first episode as she receives a phone call from her husband and appears surprised. Jen asks Whitney, “Can you turn this….off?” concerning her microphone.
Jen exits the bus and is seen having a conversation with housewife Heather Gay, 46, as Whitney turns it off. She tells Heather, “I have some horrible news.” She informs the ladies, “I just got a phone call and I need to go.” “Do you have to leave?” Lisa Barlow, 46, is the one who inquires. As she departs the bus, Jen answers, “Yeah.”
The girls are startled to see the feds looking for Jen as their bus sits outside of Heather’s skincare salon, Beauty Lab + Laser, and the ladies are stunned to find the feds looking for Jen, a scene Whitney will never forget. “We had Homeland Security, the NYPD, the Swat Team, and the FBI there,” Whitney explained. “I had no idea what Homeland Security, or the HSI, was. They looked like strippers to me, and Jen was pulling a quick one on me. But when we realized what was going on and glanced outside the party bus and saw the SWAT team and armed cars, we said to ourselves, “Woah.” ‘What is going on?’
I don’t know how to put that into words. Pure astonishment. That was my impression. We didn’t have much information at our disposal. All of the information was still flowing in, and when we chose to keep driving, we simply assumed Jen was at the hospital with Sharrief, who was experiencing some medical concerns. I gasped for air when that piece was delivered to me, and I believe you can see the dread on my face. “Wow, this is real,” she continued.
While Jen waits for her March 2022 trial date, the founder of Iris + Beau Skincare and Wild Rose Beauty is assisting her in whatever way she sees fit while she waits to see how everything plays out. ”One of the most difficult things I’ve had to deal with is how I choose to show up for Jen,” Whitney added. “It’s been a major growth spurt for me because, while this is all about Jen and has nothing to do with me, it’s up to me to decide what kind of friend I’m going to be and how I’m going to present myself.
It’s no secret that Jen and I have had a rocky relationship. We’ve had our share of ups and downs and bumps in the road, but I’ve chosen to follow Jen wherever she is with me. As a result, whatever Jen provides me, I return it to her. I’ll be nice to her if she’s nice to me.”
Despite the gravity with Jen, the mother of two was much more relaxed during filming this season as we get to see more of her own family. “I think I came in stronger the second season,” Whitney said. “I’m not afraid to show everyone all of my sides. The second season was much more relaxing. Our friendships were deepening significantly. We were a lot more at ease with each other and used to being in front of the camera.”
