Jesy Nelson launched her solo career after Little Mix with a music video that has it all: lowriders, golf, twerking, a Diddy cameo, and Nicki Minaj with hair down to her knees!
Jesy Nelson looked to the past when planning her future as a solo artist. The former Little Mix vocalist sampled Diddy’s “Bad Boy For Life” in “Boyz,” and the music video that accompanied it paid homage to the 2001 original. Even the former “Puff Daddy” himself, now playing Ben Stiller, makes an appearance.
However, he isn’t the most prominent cameo. That accolade may go to Nicki Minaj, who storms into Jesy’s garage in front of a rock band. Nicki later joins Jesy in front of an expensive-looking bike, her black hair replaced by a set of turquoise-colored locks that almost touch the ground.
Nicki, 38, raps on her verse, “My body smokin’, come get a pull,” according to Genius. “Lucky charms on my anklets, no, not cereal / Jesy, we got all the jelly bitches actin’ real messy / Still a bad bitch whether I’m athletic or stylish / I don’t know why I got these fellas actin’ zesty / But all I want for a bestie is a bad boy,” she says. Jesy, 30, takes the final chorus, declaring her love for “bad, bad dudes” and vowing to love them “for the rest of her life.”
Nicki previously collaborated with Little Mix on the song “Woman Like Me” from 2018. Jesy confirmed her resignation from the band in December 2020.
After achieving something she “never believed imaginable” with her bandmates — Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock — Jesy realized she needed a break after nine years. It was now time to “reinvest in taking care of [himself] rather than focusing on making other people happy,” he said, citing how the pressures of being in the band had “truly taken a toll on my mental health.” She thanked everyone for “making some of the most incredible times I’ll never forget,” including her former bandmates.
Jesy spoke with Glamour UK on her post-Little Mix life ahead of the release of her “Boyz” video. She admitted that since leaving the group, she hadn’t “talked to the females.” “Hopefully, we’ll be able to reunite at some point in the future.” They’re fantastic. In many respects, they are my sisters, but for the time being, we just don’t talk,” she continued.
Nicki has had a very busy 2021, while Jesy has been working on her solo career. She recently celebrated her son’s first birthday and confirmed her participation in the Real Housewives of Potamic reunion. In September, she caused a stir by claiming that her cousin in Trinidad would not receive the COVID-19 vaccine because “his friend got it [and] became impotent [after his] testicles were swelled.”
Some outlets, such as Jezebel and The Mary Sue, have speculated that Nicki’s bizarre assertion was a ruse to divert attention away from her husband Kenneth Petty’s legal woes. Jennifer Hough, the woman who accused Kenneth of rapping her in 1994, filed a lawsuit against Minaj and Petty around the same time, accusing them of “harassing and terrorizing” her.
