Following their loss to the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees will have to make some difficult decisions as they enter free agency.

The New York Yankees must now negotiate free agency after losing 6-2 to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card game in 2021. Three Yankees players will be eligible for free agency, and each had a different impact on the team this season.

Corey Kluber has only been with the New York Yankees for a short time, having joined them at the start of the season. The 35-year-old pitcher didn’t have a great season for the Yankees, but he did have a good one in a pinch, going 5-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 80 innings.

Kluber joined the Yankees as a free agent and was paid $11 million to do so. Now he’s out on the open market once more.

Anthony Rizzo, like Kluber, is a newcomer to the New York Knicks. Rizzo spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Cubs before being traded to the Yankees. He only appeared in 49 regular-season games for the Yankees, but he managed to hit.249 and smash eight home runs.

Rizzo was paid a total of $16.5 million this season. Despite the fact that he hasn’t been with the Yankees for a long time, he did have a beneficial impact in the AL Wild Card game, hitting one of New York’s two home runs. Isn’t that something?

In a deal, Andrew Heaney was also acquired. His ERA with the Yankees is 7.32, and in 35.2 innings thrown, he only struck out 37 batters. Heaney isn’t well compensated in comparison to the other men on this list. This year, the 30-year-old pitcher earned $6.75 million.

Heaney was brought in by the Yankees, and he plainly struggled throughout his time there. While Kluber and Rizzo had some memorable moments, Heaney had a difficult day.

The following is the entire list of unrestricted free agents:

  • Corey Kluber
  • Anthony Rizzo
  • Andrew Heaney
  • Adam Warren

Joely Rodriguez and Brett Gardner both have club options. Aaron Boone’s contract is up for renewal, and Darren O’Day’s has a mutual option (though he is not a player).
