Mike Shildt reveals Cardinals Wild Card game starter

Mike Schildt has confirmed that Adam Wainwright would start for the St. Louis Cardinals after they clinched an NL Wild Card place earlier this week.

The St. Louis Cardinals have had an incredible season. While the club lost on Wednesday, they had won 17 consecutive games before to that loss to Milwaukee. The Cards have clinched a spot in the NL Wild Card game thanks to that incredible run.

We don’t know if they’ll face the Dodgers or Giants in the Wild Card Game yet, but we do know who will get the call. Mike Shildt, the captain, declared on Thursday that Adam Wainwright would start.

Adam Wainwright will start the Wild Card Game for the St. Louis Cardinals next week

Shildt’s decision to send out Wainwright for this game should come as no surprise, as the veteran hurler has been nothing short of sensational this season. Wainwright has a 17-7 record, a 3.05 ERA, and 174 strikeouts this season.

Wainwright, on the other hand, will have the unenviable task of trying to silence either the Los Angeles or San Francisco batters. The two teams are in a tight competition for the National League West crown. The Giants lead the Dodgers by two games as of this writing. This year, both teams have been outstanding, with San Francisco scoring 104-54 and Los Angeles scoring 102-56.

Wainwright will be ready to go against whoever the Cardinals wind up playing. Though the Dodgers and Giants are the favorites to win the game, the Cardinals are hoping to surprise a lot of people.
