Stella Griffith, the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, has filed a petition to have the word “Griffith” removed from her last name in order to abbreviate her long surname.
Stella Griffith, Melanie Griffith, and Antonio Banderas’ daughter has filed a petition to have the name “Griffith” removed from her name.
According to court documents acquired by The Blast on September 28, the model, who was born Stella Del Carmen Banderas Griffith, filed a name change petition in Los Angeles, demanding that her new moniker be Stella Del Carmen Banderas.
In the application, the actress’s daughter stated that she wished to “shorten my name by deleting the superfluous last name,” noting that she did not refer to herself as “Griffith” in general or in papers. In the petition, the model stated, “Dropping the name would reflect my ordinary use.”
Between 1996 and 2015, Melanie, 64, and Antonio, 61, were married. Melanie shares children Dakota Johnson, 31, and Alexander Bauer, 36, with former partners Don Johnson and Steven Bauer, making the trio step-siblings.
Stella, unlike her renowned half-sibling, spent most of her childhood away from the spotlight. In 1999, she starred in the film Crazy in Alabama, directed by her father and starring her mother. She has since entered the modeling profession, appearing on the cover of Glamour Spain (the country in which she was born).
The gorgeous duo walked the red carpet together on September 17 at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain, where the model accompanied her renowned father. Melanie’s mother Melanie even posted a series of photos of the father-daughter combination on Instagram the next day. Using the hashtags #love and #family, the pleased mother captioned, “Father and daughter.”
Stella seems to get along well with both of her famous parents. The model would periodically post images of her mother and father on her Instagram account, including a throwback of her mother and a shot of her father with a heart-emoji comment.
Antonio also paid tribute to the model on her birthday, September 24, by posting a touching flashback photo and wishing his daughter a happy birthday. Melanie also posted a series of adorable photos of Dakota and Stella on Instagram on September 25, which was National Daughters Day. With a heart emoji, she said, “Happy National Daughters Day.”
