Mason Crosby of the Green Bay Packers finished a last-second comeback by nailing a 51-yard field goal as time expired to win the game.
Aaron Rodgers could not be stopped in 37 seconds with no timeouts.
The future Hall-of-Famer quarterback was able to lead a game-winning drive to upset the San Francisco 49ers, a team that has been a tough out for Green Bay in recent years.
Despite all of the popular pundit talking points, Week 1 proved to be an outlier. Rodgers’ readiness to play is an issue that should be left unanswered. His ability to respond, on the other hand, cannot be disputed.
Rodgers will receive the attention, but it was Crosby’s leg that ultimately decided the game.
Packers: Aaron Rodgers all-in after early struggles
Jimmy Garoppolo kept the 49ers in the game with a clutch drive of his own that gave them the lead late. However, just under 40 seconds proved to be too much for Rodgers, as Jimmy G’s late-game heroics went unheralded outside of San Francisco.
Unfortunately, that is how the NFL operates. In some circumstances, the losing team is not given the credit it deserves.
With the exception of a difficult Week 1, Rodgers has been outstanding. At this pace, he’ll be right back in the MVP debate, which is exactly what the Packers need him to do in order to achieve their Super Bowl dreams.
