Mariska’s younger two children were adopted, and she’s been outspoken about how much she enjoys motherhood throughout the years. In 2018, she told People, “The thing that’s made me a better parent is my kids.” “Because they taught me how to pay attention. My husband is my compass, and my children are my professors.” Everything you need to know about Mariska and Peter’s three children may be found here.

Mariska and Peter welcomed their first child, August, on June 28, 2006, just over two years after their wedding. Mariska had to have an emergency caesarean section following a tough pregnancy for the actress. In her third semester, she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes as a result of her excessive eating to maintain her stamina for filming SVU. Mariska, on the other hand, eventually gave birth to a healthy baby boy, something she had been looking forward to for a long time. In 2007, the actress told Self Magazine, “Nobody wanted to be pregnant more than me.” “I was wearing full-on pregnancy pants from the moment I found out. Mind you, my stomach was completely flat, but I was so excited.”

August is now a teenager, and he has previously been photographed on his mother’s social media profiles. Mariska has previously stated that she finds it difficult to miss out on events in August due to her work. “I’m envious of the individuals who get to drop August off at school and pick him up. In a recent interview, she stated, “It’s difficult for me to go to his school and not know all of the parents.” “Everyone knows everyone else, and it’s a community.” I won’t always be able to participate. However, you can’t have it all.”

Mariska and Peter wanted to start a family after August was born, but they were hesitant due to Mariska’s health difficulties. As a result, the couple looked into adoption, and on April 7, 2011, after attending her birth in Africa, they adopted Amaya Josephine. Mariska told Good Housekeeping in 2012 about Amya’s birth, “I simply pushed Amaya out.” “Peter and I held her for a while, and then the birth mother and I cuddled for quite a while. That was a powerful statement. That was one of the most significant experiences of my life.”

Andrew Nicholas Hermann

Mariska and Peter adopted a second child, boy Andrew Nicholas, who was born two months prematurely, in October 2011, just a few months after bringing home Amaya. The couple’s adoption lawyer contacted to advise them that a friend of theirs, Andrew, had passed away, as well as to inform them of a baby in need of a home. “It was like…a miracle,” says the narrator.

Mariska told Good Housekeeping about adopting a second kid, “And I don’t use that word lightly.” “I’ve never made a more important decision in my life. The entire event took place over the course of two days. Andrew, the couple’s second son, was named after a buddy who had passed away.

Mariska has been candid about how difficult it was for her to raise three children with the birth of her third kid. “It’s a lot, but you’re a professional. That is the nature of things. It’s something you’ll have to accept. She described the highs as “high” and the lows as “low.”

And, when it comes to the highs, Mariska has stated unequivocally that being a mother is the best of all her blessings in life. In a 2018 People interview, she stated, “Our family is so wonderful, or at least ideal for me.” “We’re just this big, happy, wonderful, chaotic, crazy unit when we’re all together. Nothing has ever seemed more appropriate to me.”
