Warwickshire won the Bob Willis Trophy this season thanks to a five-wicket haul from Craig Miles, who also had centuries from Rob Yates and captain Will Rhodes on Day 2 as they beat Lancashire by an innings to complete a red-ball double after winning the County Championship last week.
The toss was won by Warwickshire, who chose to bat first.
Tim Bresnan caught George Balderson off Liam Norwell’s bowling for 1 before Alex Davies, who has already agreed to join Warwickshire next season, was caught and bowled by Craig Miles (shown below) for 7. Miles would also bowl Luke Wells without scoring, while Dane Vilas would be LBW for a duck later in the same over.
Steven Croft would be the third batsman to be dismissed for no reason, LBW to Miles, before Rob Jones was caught behind by Michael Burgess off the bowling of Norwell for one run, leaving the Red Rose county at 12/6. Josh Bohannon would be caught for 17 by Dom Sibley off the bowling of Manraj Johal, before Tom Bailey would be LBW to the same bowler without scoring.
Luke Wood finished 46 not out after being caught by Sam Hain from the bowling of Johal for the same score. Matt Parkinson was the final wicket to go, caught by Burgess off the bowling of Miles for 4 (Miles finishing with 5/28) and Luke Blatherwick for the same score.
With Rob Yates and Sibley not out at 69 and 49 respectively, Warwickshire finished the day with a score of 120/0.
Warwickshire would add 13 to their overnight total when Sibley was LBW to Bailey for 57, with Yates and Will Rhodes putting up 110 for the second wicket before the latter was caught by Wells off Parkinson’s bowling for 113. Blatherwick would dismiss Hain for 55 runs before Wells dismissed Matthew Lamb without scoring.
Burgess would be stumped for 44 by Davies off Parkinson’s bowling, while Bresnan would be caught for 4 by Wells off the same bowler. Danny Briggs was the final wicket to fall on the day, caught by Davies off the bowling of Wells for 2 runs, bringing Warwickshire’s total to 464/7, with Rhodes (151) and Miles (12) remaining unbeaten.
After adding 5 to the overnight total, Rhodes was bowled for 156 by Blatherwick, and Norwell was dismissed for 2 in the same manner. With Miles unbeaten on 30, Johal would be the final wicket to fall, bowled by Parkinson for 19 runs.
Miles would dismiss Davies for 11 runs before Burgess caught Wells for 41 runs off Bresnan’s bowling. Bohannon would be caught for 8 by Hain off Norwell’s bowling before opener Balderson was bowled for 65 by the same bowler.
Croft was caught by Bresnan off the bowling of Briggs for 3 runs before Vilas was caught by Hain off the bowling of Miles for 25 runs, bringing Lancashire’s total to 171/6. Jones and Wood were 0 and 13 not out respectively.
Warwickshire would finish the game in under an hour, with Wood being bowled for 28 by Johal and Jones being LBW to Briggs for 18. Blatherwick would be stumped for 11 by Burgess off the same bowler, before Bailey was caught by Burgess off the bowling of Norwell for 24 – Parkinson ended 0 not out – Warwickshire winning by an innings and 199 runs.
