Nothing has changed. At the Teen Mom OG reunion earlier this year, Maci Bookout and her husband, Taylor McKinney, had a major brawl with her son Bentley’s grandparents, and their relationship is still on the rocks.
On Thursday, September 2, the 16 and Pregnant alum, 30, told Us Weekly exclusively, “We haven’t really had any communication between them and us.” “I’m not sure if that will change….” It just hasn’t come up yet. There hasn’t been much of a chance or necessity for us to talk or fix things or anything like that.”
Things came to a head during the midseason reunion, which aired in April, when host Dr. Drew Pinsky questioned Ryan Edwards’ father, Larry Edwards, about comments he made about Maci and Taylor during season 9. Maci and Ryan, 33, have a 12-year-old son named Bentley. (Jayde, 6, and Maverick, 5, are the Tennessee native’s children with Taylor, whom she married in 2016.)
Larry informed Dr. Drew at the time, “A 12-year-old boy may be manipulated.” Maci, on the other hand, claimed she had no idea Bentley’s grandparents felt this way.
The author of Bulletproof remarked, “Watching this show and kind of hearing and seeing how people were feeling was kind of startling to me.” “I had no idea [they] had feelings and thought I was influencing Bentley or that we were manipulating Bentley. I had no idea such a thing existed. I had no idea you felt like that.”
Taylor also accused Larry and his wife, Jen Edwards, of making Bentley feel “guilty” about his father’s relationship in the same episode. During the broadcast, he remarked, “Ryan has never been there for him, but y’all put it on Bentley!”
Maci said she wouldn’t call her connection with Larry and Jen “broken” after nearly five months, but she’s also not ready to put things behind her.
She told Us, “I’m not sure it’s necessary right now.” “It’s also something I’d like not to force. I don’t want things to happen in an unnatural or inconvenient way. … I don’t believe now is the appropriate time. As I have stated, I don’t want it to feel forced.”
Bentley, for one, seems unconcerned with the on-screen drama, although he does watch the show.
Maci stated, “He generally watches it with me before it airs.” “And it’s just because he loves to be ready for any inquiries or situations that may arise at school,” she says. Teen Mom is evidently popular among middle school girls.”
The Naked and Afraid star admitted that the preteen is occasionally “curious” in events he wasn’t aware of, but that he isn’t particularly fond of the reality show.
“You know, he doesn’t really like the show,” she joked. “He doesn’t watch it because he thinks it’s cool,” says the narrator.
