Lizzo surprised her mother, Shari, with new apparel for her birthday, which was captured on video.
On Friday, the singer of “Rumors” posted an Instagram video showing her mother entering into a wardrobe full of clothes, shoes, and accessories.
“Do these outfits appeal to you?” Lizzo is overheard asking a question to her mother. The narrator states, “These are your clothing.”
“I got you a wardrobe,” the singer/rapper added later, bringing her mother to tears.
Lizzo captioned the photo with, “Ever since papa passed, you’ve been telling me it’s been hard to dress beautiful for yourself,” tagging stylist and designer Jason Rembert. “I know I won’t be able to resurrect ur closest friend… “However, I still want to give you the entire world.”
Lizzo has previously spoken about her grief over the death of her father, who passed away in 2009.
Last year, the singer admitted to co-host Gayle King on “CBS This Morning” that she was depressed and thought she “didn’t have a purpose” after her father died.
Lizzo mentioned in a New Year’s Eve 2019 Twitter post about her life’s journey since then that she was able to buy her mother a house 10 years after her father’s death.
Lizzo posted a video on Instagram in December showing her giving her mother a fancy SUV for Christmas.
“I remember crying in my car when my daddy died away, no work, no money, no place to live, thinking I could one day provide for my family,” she captioned the photo. “I couldn’t do it for my father, so I’m going to spoil Mama.”
