Katy Perry & Lorde Look Like Royalty On ‘Power Of…

Both Katy Perry and Lorde donned stunning lilac purple gowns to Variety’s Power of Women evening, where they were recognized for their philanthropic efforts.

Katy Perry and Lorde wore the most ethereal outfits to Variety’s Power of Women gala. Katy, 36, wore a billowing lilac purple gown with off-the-shoulder puff sleeves, while Lorde, 24, wore an elegant dress in the same dreamy shade with designs and a cape at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills on September 30.

Katy finished the outfit by pulling her hair back into a bun and wearing a pair of stunning dangling earrings. Lorde wore her hair back in a long ponytail for the evening, looking classy. Both artists were honored during the event on Thursday, which honored female trailblazers, poets, painters, and others for their philanthropic work. Rita Moreno, poet Amanda Gorman, and Channing Dungey, CEO of Warner Bros. Television Studios, were also honored.

Angelina Jolie, Ava DuVernay, Gayle King, Gloria Calderón Kellett, and Hunter Schafer were among the presenters for the evening, which was a star-studded occasion. Justina Machado, Tia Mowry, Jenna Dewan, Kelly Hu, Chelsea Peretti, and Alyssa Milano were among the guests.

In the case of Katy and Lorde, Variety executive editor Ramin Setoodeh released a sweet video of the two celebrities chatting ahead of the meal. I wish I could listen in on the talk.

Lorde was recognized for her work with 350 Aotearoa, a climate movement fighting to eliminate fossil fuel-driven projects in her native New Zealand, while Katy was recognized for her Firework Foundation, an arts organization that provides art programs to children in marginalized places.

Lorde used her address to focus on the “golden microphone” she had been given to help her voice the topics she cared about. “I was one of a million youngsters posting something online from their childhood bedrooms to impress their buddies when something crazy happened one day — I was gifted a golden megaphone,” she explained. “This megaphone amplified my voice tenfold, making it audible to people I didn’t know.”

“All of a sudden, journalists from important newspapers could hear my voice, which was still coming from my bedroom at the bottom of the world,” Lorde stated, later adding on power, “Be elegant with your power.” Don’t hold it too tightly or use it in an inequitable manner. Be open to criticism and debate about what you stand for. It assists everyone in moving forward.” Katy honored her sister Angela, among others, for her role as co-founder of the Firework Foundation in her remarks.

“This accolade also goes to my sister, Angela, who is my co-founder at the Firework Foundation and the ultimate champion for children’s access and opportunity,” she stated. “Thank you so much for keeping me focused on the bigger picture, for pushing my feet to the fire, for holding me accountable, and for getting all the logistics in place so that we may make a difference in our lives and others’ lives.” Katy also thanked her fiancé Orlando Bloom for “handling the crazy of my life,” calling him a “friend and ally to women all across the world.”
