Kim and Kanye were planning to appear on Saturday Night Live together this weekend, and a source tells HL EXCLUSIVELY what happened.
Kim Kardashian is set to debut on Saturday Night Live tomorrow, and fans (and detractors!) are excited to see what the 40-year-old has in store.
Kim is the first reality celebrity to host the long-running show, and there has been plenty of buzz around the occasion, including rumors that her estranged husband, Kanye West, will perform as a musical guest. So, what went wrong?
“They tossed about the prospect of him being the musical guest weeks and weeks ago when they were getting Kim to do the show, but those negotiations didn’t get very far,” a source EXCLUSIVELY revealed to HollywoodLife. “However, writers like Michael Che have floated the possibility of him appearing in something. They don’t expect anything from him, but they did ask.”
Kim was “extremely worried” about filming the show, according to a source who earlier told HL that she “wanted to knock it out of the park.” Despite the fact that she won’t have Kanye by her side, the SKIMS founder may be more focused on delivering a successful performance without her ex. “She wants to prove to herself and any detractors that being asked to do the show was worth it,” the person continued.
Since Kim filed for divorce from the “Off the Grid” rapper in February 2021, it’s been unclear how “separate” the two have kept during their split. Kim wore a wedding gown to Kanye’s DONDA album performance in Chicago on Aug. 30, prompting speculation that the couple was contemplating their divorce.
The pair was “putting on an unified front” and “taking it day by day,” a source told HL at the time. The pair was also spotted in Malibu on Aug. 19, having a kid-free lunch together, ahead of their appearance in Chicago.
