Kanye West Reportedly Opening ‘Donda’ School In L.A. To Create…

Kanye West is rumored to be establishing a California prep school named after his late mother, Donda, a Chicago university professor.Kanye West, 44, is launching an educational academy to broaden his interests beyond music and fashion.

According to reports, the Illinois native will open the Donda Academy just outside of Los Angeles, which will be named for his late mother Donda West, who died in 2007. Donda was a professor in the English department at Chicago State University and taught at the post-secondary level for 31 years.

The website, which includes a mission statement, admissions page, and contact email, makes no mention of Kanye. The institution has been contacted by HollywoodLife for confirmation that Kanye is involved.

According to local Los Angeles television network CBS 2, the facility will be located between Simi Valley and the Moorpark region near a closed private school. The plain black website, which contains bold, capitalized gray writing, makes no mention of an opening date.

Donda Academy’s mission statement reads, “Using an ethic of integrity and care, Donda Academy prepares students to become the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators by providing them with a world-class education that includes a rigorous core curriculum and emphasis on sustainability, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving.”

The site’s homepage provides further information on the school’s goals, including a subtle reference to the institution’s Christian roots. “Donda Academy is focused on providing students with an education that will last in an ever-changing world by finding the connection between faith and future innovation.” Just below is a link to an admissions website that asks which “educational pathway” potential students are interested in.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the school is also funded by Adidas, the company that makes Kanye West’s Yeezy brand, with a focus on developing a good basketball team to compete with Los Angeles private school Sierra Canyon (also the alma mater of Kendall and Kylie Jenner).

High school prospects, including North Carolina’s Robert Dillingham, Georgia’s Jahki Howard, and New Jersey’s Zion Cruz, have taken to Instagram to confirm they’ve been contacted by the rapper about perhaps enrolling in the yet-to-be-opened institution, according to the website.
