Jane Powell, Golden Age Star Of Movie Musicals, Dead…

Jane Powell, the bright-eyed, operatic-voiced queen of Hollywood’s golden age musicals who danced with Fred Astaire in “Royal Wedding” and sung with Howard Keel in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” has died. She was 92 years old at the time.

Powell died at her Wilton, Connecticut, home on Thursday, according to longtime friend Susan Grander. Powell died of natural causes, according to Granger.

Powell began her career as a singing prodigy on radio in Portland, Oregon, when she was approximately five years old.

She made her debut film at the age of 16 and progressed from teen roles to costarring in the elaborate musical musicals that were a Hollywood hallmark in the twentieth century.
