Halsey, Ender Ridley Aydin’s mother and a music icon, was sadly absent from the Met Gala in 2021, and she explained why.
While many celebrities attended the Met Gala 2021 on Monday, September 13, Halsey was curiously absent from the annual fashion event.
The If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power singer tweeted to their fans in July that they will be skipping the event to be with their kid. In a series of tweets, they expressed their gratitude not just for their newborn baby Ender Ridley Aydin, but also for their followers’ patience.
When asked why she wasn’t at the annual Costume Institute Benefit, Halsey, 24, joked that she was “still breastfeeding” and made fun of the night’s “In America” theme. “It’s only been 7 weeks since I gave birth to my baby. They wrote, “There’s nothing more ‘American fashion’ than moms having to return to work after giving birth.”
In another tweet, Halsey mentioned that they were suffering from postpartum depression, emphasizing how “grateful” they are. “[P]ostpartum makes no distinctions. That was the only thing I wanted to say.”
Nicki Minaj (who didn’t attend the Met Gala after testing positive for COVID) offered her support for Halsey when they stated their reasons for not attending. Nicki remarked in an Instagram post with pictures of Halsey’s tweets, “You don’t have to explain.”
Nicki also seemed to allude to one of her own controversial tweets, in which she claimed she is unvaccinated. Due to her positive test, the “Super Bass” rapper bemoaned that she “couldn’t hold [her] baby.” In her support for Halsey, the rapper said, “What is up with y’all criticizing new mothers on their choices?”
Halsey has only ever attended the Met Gala once, and fans are clearly hoping for a return visit. For the first time in 2019, the singer wore a bright red Atelier Prabal Gurung two-piece gown with a full-length split skirt and matching pointy-toed shoes to the pink carpet.
The New Jersey singer has had a very hectic few months. The SONG singer changed her pronouns to “she/they” in March, indicating that she is happy being addressed with “she/her” or “they/them” pronouns interchangeably.
Halsey brought her kid into the world with BF Alev Aydin a few months later, in July. Since then, she’s been openly documenting her experience as a first-time mother with her admirers, including navigating the nursing “jungles.” In August, Halsey released their fourth studio album, ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power,’ which was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. In a nutshell, Halsey has been quite busy!
