After overzealous spectators heckled Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber about his ex, Selena Gomez, at the Met Gala, her cousin Ireland leapt to her rescue.
Never go against your family’s wishes. After a swarm of ecstatic fans heckled Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber about Selena Gomez at the Met Gala on Monday, September 13, Ireland Baldwin looks to be living by that credo.
Fans could be heard yelling, “Selena! Selena! Selena!” as the celebrity couple walked the carpet in a TikTok video Hailey posted on the platform.

“Selena Gomez fanatics camped outside of the Met trying to disrupt Justin and hailey’s red carpet moment,” wrote another TikToker across the video, which Hailey appears to have reposted. “DISGUSTING,” Hailey captioned her repost of the video.
“They’re one of the happiest and most in love couples I’ve ever gotten the pleasure to be around,” Ireland, Hailey’s cousin and daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, quickly defended her in-laws. They don’t give a damn about them.”
This isn’t the first time fans have attacked the model-musician duo, who are still enraged by Justin’s marriage to Hailey after dating Selena on and off for almost 10 years. A fan video inviting people to flood Justin’s Instagram Live with “Jelena” comments provoked a response from the “Lonely” singer in December 2020, who called the fan’s video “unhealthy and sad” at the time.
“This miserable excuse for a human merely pushed people to go against my wife on tape, telling people that my former relationship was better and so on. Justin, who married Hailey, 24, in 2018, stated on his Instagram story on Thursday, Dec. 3, “I just wanted to share this so that people get an idea of what we face day to day.” Since she and Justin married, there have been countless such instances of fans abusing the model, but the couple has taken it in stride, at times calling for prayer and light.
In the meantime, Selena has spent the years since she and Justin divorced working on her business — and on herself. Selena’s 2020 album, Rare, included her most emotional hit single to yet, Lose You to Love Me, which marked the start of a new chapter in the Disney Channel alum’s career.
Selena has starred in a number of television projects since then, including HBO Max’s Selena + Chef culinary show series and Hulu’s 2021 murder mystery comedy Only Murders in the Building, in which she stars alongside comic icons Steve Martin and Martin Short.
