Dolly Parton is praising Lil Nas X, the rapper and pop artist who recorded her song “Jolene.” Take a look at what the country icon had to say about the performance!
Is there a possibility of a duet on the horizon? On Sept. 29, Dolly Parton, 75, expressed her admiration for Lil Nas X by saying how much she enjoyed the rapper’s recent cover of her hit “Jolene.” The Tennessee native gushed about the performance on Instagram and expressed her admiration for the “Industry Baby” singer.
Dolly commented in her Instagram post, “I was really excited when someone told me Lil Nas X had done my song ‘Jolene.'” “I wanted to track it down and listen to it right away…and it’s fantastic.” Of course, I adore him nonetheless. I was taken aback, and I feel honored and flattered. I’m hoping for the best for both of us. Thank you very much, @lilnasx[.]”
On September 28, Lil Nas X spoke with SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live about how he and his team chose “Jolene” for their BBC Radio performance, despite the fact that it wasn’t the song they had planned.
“We were originally planning to do a Nirvana song, but then we were just messing about and sang ‘Jolene,’ and it was like, ‘Wait a minute.’ What if we really did a ‘Jolene?’” Andy Cohen was told by Lil Nas X. “And I feel like, you know, the context to it entirely changes as you just mentioned, and I was like, ‘Oh, that would be very cool,’” he continued. So I took the plunge. Hey, I’m a big fan of my country’s history. So I said to myself, “Ah, this is perfect.”
This isn’t the first time Dolly has mentioned her country music counterpart. The “9 to 5” singer told Elle magazine in 2019 that she was approached about being a part of Lil Nas X’s huge hit “Old Town Road,” but she finally declined. She explained, “I had an opportunity to be a part of that [song], but it had done so well with so many people.” “I figured, ‘Well, I’ll just wait and do something later.'” It’s pointless to continue down the same Old Town Road. We’ve got different paths to take.’
