After the multiple challenges he faced leading up to UFC 266, Dan Hooker and his staff at City Kickboxing are considering a major shift.

Hooker will battle Nasrat Haqparast, a rising UFC lightweight contender, at UFC 266, but there have been serious issues surrounding the event in recent days. During the COVID-19 epidemic, his home country of New Zealand, as well as the rest of Oceania, has been under siege.

Even worse, New Zealand’s new limitations have made it more difficult for out-of-country visitors to return home. Fortunately, Hooker and his staff were able to deal with the authorities to return to the country after UFC 266 while they consider their options.

After the frenzy of the last days and weeks, Hooker hinted about City Kickboxing relocating stateside during his UFC 266 pre-fight interview.

“We’ve talked about it as a group now. It’s something I’ve been considering. We’re simply working out the logistics of where we’re going and everything right now. It will ultimately be up to our coaches. It is necessary to relocate our families and coaches.

“It’s been a whirlwind of a process. We’ve been shackled for a long time, and something has to give.”

Haqparast, Hooker’s opponent, has had trouble coming to Las Vegas from outside the United States. Due to the unusual conditions, it was speculated that the battle would be fought at welterweight, but both competitors surprisingly weighed in at the 155-pound limit.

After a brutal knockout loss to Michael Chandler earlier this year, Hooker will seek to get back on track in the UFC’s lightweight division.

On Saturday, September 25, UFC 266 will be broadcast live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. FanSided MMA will be on-site to bring you all the latest news and highlights.
