College football rankings, grades: Penn State gets an ‘A+’, Clemson…

College football is always unpredictable, but Week 3 proved to be especially so, even for the best teams in the country.

In a revived rivalry, top-ranked Alabama survived a huge scare from Florida, while Oklahoma looked vulnerable against Nebraska.

No one knew who would win the primetime matchup between No. 10 Penn State and No. 22 Auburn until the final seconds ticked off the clock. The Tigers were edged by the Nittany Lions, who were helped by the 12th man in a White Out game.

Several upstart teams entered the national title chase this weekend, including Ole Miss, who defeated Tulane 61-21 with quarterback Matt Corral scoring seven touchdowns. Iowa State also had a strong comeback win over UNLV, while Michigan continued to impress by destroying Northern Illinois for 63 points and 606 yards in the Big House.

As we approach the final weekend of September, it’s time to assess where these teams stand. Let’s give the frontrunners for the College Football Playoff some grades based on Caesars Sportsbook’s futures odds.
