Since their “feelings” reappeared, Christopher Meloni of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” weighed in on Elliot and Olivia’s relationship and whether a romance could happen in the future.
Some Law & Order viewers have been wondering if Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson will end up together after they reunited after a decade apart. There’s a lot going on between these former companions, from the cryptic letter Elliot penned for Olivia to his proclamation of love.
As Organized Crime enters its second season and SVU enters its 23rd, Christopher Meloni discussed whether or not there is still potential for Elliot and Olivia to end up in a love relationship.
“Sure. Hope endures forever. After all, why not? I believe it will be a collaborative effort between the showrunners of SVU and OC, as well as Mariska and me, to sort it all out. “It’s a delicate connection, so we’ll see,” Christopher told reporters at a Television Critics Association event on September 13, including HollywoodLife.
When Christopher left SVU after season 12, he admitted the “extremely disappointing resolution to the Benson-Stabler drama.” “For the supporters, it was a bit of a shock. I believe there were always those feelings, those feelings’ underpinnings, that were never addressed. So they stayed for ten years to see how the narrative unfolded,” he explained.
When Elliot and Olivia reunited after a decade apart and he returned to town, those feelings surfaced. The former partners had a heart-to-heart after his wife died. Liv told him, “You were the single most important person in my life, and you vanished.” “I was scared I wouldn’t be able to go if I heard your voice,” Elliot said.
Things took a turn later when Elliot’s kids planned an intervention with Olivia’s help. He told Olivia, “I love you.” “I adore all of you,” he replied swiftly. His confession, on the other hand, has been in the air since then.
Christopher remarked that his relationship with Mariska Hargitay is unlike any other actor’s. The actor told reporters, “I don’t have that relationship with any other performer on the planet because I’ve never worked with anyone for as long as I’ve worked with Mariska.” “And it was about revisiting something that had been left incomplete, as I previously stated. That has an intriguing aspect to it. All of this wrapped up in a bundle of anguish due to the circumstances of my reintroduction. As a result, the dynamic was radically different. And yet, I believe the cornerstone of it all was a sense of levity, a sense of humor that we have with each other all the time, and friendship, love, and camaraderie.”
Christopher remained close to Mariska even after he quit the role of Stabler. He gushed, “She is what she puts out there.” “She’s open and honest, dependable, and a ray of sunshine. She exudes goodness, warmth, and a sense of belonging. It’s just a fantastic energy to be around. She is a dedicated employee. I mean, I assisted for the first 12 years, but she’s been keeping the SVU train running for the past 23 years. She is committed to her work. She is a true professional. She’s a sweetheart. I believe we genuinely like and look forward to working together.”
The contents of Elliot’s letter to Olivia will be disclosed in season 2 of Organized Crime, according to Christopher, who spoke to fans at a 92nd Street Y event. According to TVLine, Christopher remarked, “The letter is addressed this season, and I think [fans] are going to light [their] heads on fire when it happens.” “I believe there will be a riot.” On September 23, NBC’s SVU returns for season 23 with a two-hour debut at 8 p.m., followed by Organized Crime at 10 p.m.
