During the Georgia State game, Auburn quarterback Bo Nix was benched in favor of TJ Finley.
Auburn football is entering a new era, and head coach Bryan Harsin must play the best quarterback available, whether it’s Bo Nix, TJ Finley, or someone else entirely.
For the past three years, Nix has been the Tigers’ starting quarterback. While Nix can run a little, plays well at home, and has a quarterbacking pedigree down on The Plains, he struggled on Saturday and was benched in favor of the LSU transfer. Finley was brought in to preserve Auburn’s season from being ruined. He was instrumental in the Panthers’ victory over Georgia State.
Should Harsin give Nix another chance after a month on the field or start Finley for Auburn?
Auburn football QB controversy: Who should start between Bo Nix and TJ Finley?
Simply put, Auburn will not win or even be in contention for the SEC West this season. Although Auburn is ranked No. 23, it is only the conference’s sixth best team. Of course, with a new head coach in his first year with Harsin, this was to be expected. He has to set the tone for what Auburn football fans can expect in the future. The majority of these players were not recruited by Harsin.
So, should Finley take Nix’s place in the future? Yes, because he ignited the offense in a way that Nix hasn’t been able to do in almost three years. Nix may be an Auburn legend, but who his father is shouldn’t matter. Harsin is in the business of winning games, and Auburn will not beat Georgia State without Finley. He transferred to Auburn in order to play football. Give him a chance.
The only thing that counts for Auburn this year, aside from developing a culture, is finding a quarterback.
