Aspen Skiing Co. plans $15 million in affordable housing

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Aspen Skiing Co. plans to construct a $15 million affordable-housing complicated in the western Colorado city of Basalt.

The Aspen Times reported Friday the complicated would have 36 models and a complete of 148 bedrooms. Some of the models can be reserved for staff in Basalt, the place the corporate has about 80 workers.

Basalt is about 19 miles (31 kilometers) northwest of Aspen.

Aspen Skiing Co. owns 4 resorts in the Aspen space: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass.

The firm estimates it has about 700 beds in its employee housing stock and expects it can want extra as new, youthful staff substitute older ones who retire.

The firm submitted an software for the venture to Basalt officers on Thursday. It hopes to construct in 2019 and 2020.
