The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox in a game. In the AL Wild Card Game, who had the most blunders?
The New York Yankees did not fare well in the American League Wild Card Game in 2021. Despite being on the road, this is a battle that New York should have been able to win. Instead, the Boston Red Sox appeared to be a strong opponent, easily dispatching the Yankees.
In actuality, the Red Sox appeared to be a far superior team than the Yankees, winning 6-2, but it shouldn’t have been that way, and this matchup should’ve been closer (at least in theory).
But it wasn’t closer because the Yankees’ top leaders made expensive blunders, while several typically reliable contributors failed to deliver.
The Yankees who choked the most in the 2021 AL Wild Card game are listed below.
No. 3: Really, the majority of New York’s lineup fell short at the plate against the Red Sox
At the plate, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Aaron Judge all looked solid. They are not to fault in this situation. They were excellent. On the other hand, the rest of the New York Yankees battled terribly at the plate. That’s a problem that will keep you from winning.
With a late home run and a couple of singles, Stanton went 3-for-4 at the plate. In the top of the sixth inning, Rizzo hit a solo home run, while Judge got a hit of his own but was tagged out at the plate for an issue we’ll get to in a minute.
Aside from that, no one on the Yankees’ roster had any genuine power. The Yankees struck out 11 batters in all against the Red Sox, which is far from ideal. The Yankees were unable to establish anything resembling consistency at the plate, and as a result, they suffered greatly.
