Thunderstorms around DIA Friday cause delays, diversions for about 165 flights

Thunderstorms over and round Denver Worldwide Airport on Friday afternoon brought on delays and diversions on the airport.

The storms, between three and and four p.m. impacted about 165 flights, mentioned Heath Montgomery, a DIA spokesman. Denver handles about 1,500 flights each day.

Some departing flights have been delayed between 30 minutes to three hours. In the meantime, about 45 incoming flights have been diverted to regional airports, together with Colorado Springs.

A number of the diverted flights have since taken to the air and have landed in Denver, Montgomery mentioned at about eight:30 p.m.

Flight patterns at DIA have been anticipated to get again to regular by about 10 p.m. Friday, Montgomery mentioned.
